Upon hearing that was bringing the classic franchise to the DS, we first imagined retro games with gimmicky stylus support thrown in. Namco apparently thought differently. For the DS is an original game that combines elements of both the first and second Dig Dug titles, and if our recent play test with an early version is any indication, it's going to top the fun of Mr. Driller. Our original story on Digging Strike may have come off as a bit confusing, as we hadn't gotten a chance to play it then. Now that we have, here are the details on how the game plays in the single level that we were able to try.You start off on the top screen, moving Hori Taizou (that's the main character of Dig Dug) around an island shown in an overhead perspective. The island has a few tiny enemies and a giant boss walking around. You can zap the enemies, but the boss is so big that you can't directly attack it.

Dig Dug: Digging Strike, utilizes the original Dig Dug game and its predecessor, Dig Dug II, placing both elements in the game with the dual-screen technology, placing the original Dig Dug on the bottom screen and the overhead view of Dig Dug II on the top screen. The goal of the game is to collect w. This NDS game is the US English version that works in all modern web browsers without downloading.
Your goal is to get the boss off the island, even if you have to destroy the island in the process. The first stage island has two holes which you can enter in order to start digging. On the left and right side of each hole are pillars which hold the island together. Prison tycoon 1.
To defeat the boss, you have to go underground and dig out the ground beneath each pillar individually. The pillars will then collapse. Destroy two pillars, and the section of island to either the right or left of the two will sink into the ocean, taking the boss with it, if the boss is standing in the area.Once you get under ground, the game switches to the bottom screen.
You move Taizou around under ground, digging out the dirt, collecting power ups and dealing with enemies. The digging sequences play similar to the original Dig Dug, right down to the feeling that you're moving your character around on a grid. As with the original Dig Dug, you can zap enemies or simply avoid them. You'll also find boulders which, when the soil from around them is set free, will fall and take out enemies in their path. The pillars will collapse only if the soil directly beneath them is completely clear, so you've got to concentrate your digging there. While you can start digging from the base of the pillar down, this is dangerous, as the pillar will slowly collapse with each new layer that you dig. A better strategy seems to be to dig from the bottom up, making the pillar collapse all the way in one go (taking out enemies in the process, if your timing is good). You have to be particularly careful when you're about to make a pillar collapse all the way. If a part of the island is about to collapse with the pillar, you need to make sure that you're not on the side that's going to collapse.
We ended up sinking into the ocean a couple of times. As mentioned in our previous writeup, Hori Taizou isn't alone in his digging quest. By collecting power ups, you can call upon Taizou's son, Hori Susumu. You then take control of Susumu in a vehicle on the top screen. I have no mouth and i must scream characters.
We were able to control Susumi in a helicopter, dropping bombs on the boss. The game promises a number of different vehicles for Susumu. You're free to exit back into the over world whenever you want. The island in the first stage is pretty small, so we only had to exit the underground once in order to switch holes so that we could take out the final two pillars. There's room for strategic gameplay here, depending on how far Namco goes with the stage design.Digging Strike doesn't use the stylus, but it does make good use of both screens. You have to time your destruction of the pillars to make sure the boss is in the correct location, so that it will collapse with the island into the ocean. Being able to see the boss's movements on the top screen helps.
The game also promises to use the DS's WiFi functionality for a versus mode, which should make for some challenging matches.Having played a quick demo of Digging Strike, we can't wait to get our hands on what should be another unique, quality DS title. The game will see final Japanese release on 9/8, with a US release expected to follow.
Kill all underground monsters at all costs and make your passage safe in this very popular, retro, cabinet-style arcade game – Dig Dug! Watch out for the race of green dragons as they can breathe fire and harm you!
Dig Dug is a maze-like classic arcade game released back in 1982 for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). n this game, your goal is to kill all the underground monsters. There are two ways to kill the monsters, one is the more straight-forward approach of attacking them directly with your weapon, while the other is to squish them under a rock through the tunnels that you create. Both methods are fun! The game also features two kinds of enemies: Pookas and Fygars.
